Business Insurance

Craft brewery and taproom insurance.

Production, packaging and a bar in the same building. A brewery is three risks under one roof.

Craft breweries combine manufacturing, distribution and hospitality. Tanks and brewing equipment are substantial assets, product in process represents real value, and a taproom brings liquor liability and premises exposure that the production side does not.

Product contamination and equipment breakdown

A batch lost to contamination or a failed refrigeration cycle is a direct financial loss, and standard property cover does not respond to spoilage from equipment failure. Equipment breakdown paired with spoilage cover is what handles it.

Where product has left the premises, contamination and recall exposure follows it. Recall cover is separate from products liability and is worth understanding if you distribute beyond the taproom.

The taproom is a bar

Serving on site brings the same liquor liability exposure as any bar, including dram shop claims under Texas law. TABC seller-server certification for taproom staff supports the statutory safe harbour and is viewed favourably by carriers.

Tours, events and outdoor areas add premises liability. If you host food trucks or live music, those arrangements should be reflected in the policy rather than assumed to be covered.

Working with us

What we do differently

We are an independent agency, so we place your craft brewery insurance across several carriers rather than fitting you to one company's product. That means a genuine comparison, and someone to call who is not a call centre.

  • Pair equipment breakdown with spoilage — property cover alone will not pay
  • Keep taproom staff TABC certified
  • Consider recall cover once you distribute beyond your own premises

Common questions

Craft Brewery Insurance, answered

Is a lost batch covered?

Only where the cause is covered. Spoilage following an equipment or refrigeration failure needs equipment breakdown and spoilage cover; standard property insurance will not respond to it.

Do I need liquor liability for a taproom?

Yes. Serving on site creates the same dram shop exposure as any bar under Texas law, and general liability excludes it.

What is recall cover?

It pays the cost of recovering distributed product after a contamination issue. It is separate from products liability, which responds to injury the product causes.
