Business Insurance

DJ and performer insurance for working gigs.

Venues want a certificate. You want your gear covered. Those are two different halves of the same policy.

Performers and DJs need liability cover because venues require it, and equipment cover because their livelihood is portable, valuable and frequently left in a vehicle. Both matter, and the second is the one most likely to be claimed on.

Gear, venues and public exposure

Equipment cover should follow the gear — in the vehicle, at the venue, in storage. Standard contents policies stop at your home, and auto policies cover the vehicle rather than what is inside it.

Liability at a venue covers a guest injured by a trailing cable or a falling speaker stand. Most venues ask for $1 million and their own name on the certificate, and many will not confirm a booking without it.

Working with us

What we do differently

We are an independent agency, so we place your dj and performer insurance across several carriers rather than fitting you to one company's product. That means a genuine comparison, and someone to call who is not a call centre.

  • Insure gear on a policy that follows it, not a home contents policy
  • Check the conditions for equipment left in a vehicle overnight
  • Arrange annual cover if you play more than a handful of dates a year

Common questions

DJ and Performer Insurance, answered

Do venues require insurance from performers?

Many do, typically $1 million public liability with the venue named. It is increasingly a condition of booking rather than an occasional request.

Is my gear covered in the van overnight?

Usually under an equipment policy, though conditions about locked and alarmed vehicles are common. Home contents and auto policies will not cover professional equipment.

What about equipment I rent for a bigger show?

Hired-in equipment can be included, and rental agreements usually make you responsible for full replacement value. Confirm it before the booking.
