Business Insurance

Mobile business insurance without a shopfront.

No premises means no premises liability — and no property policy either. Everything you own is in the van.

Mobile businesses deliver a service at the customer's location: detailing, repair, grooming, medical services, trades. The vehicle is simultaneously transport, workshop and warehouse, and standard business insurance assumes a fixed address that does not exist.

Equipment, the vehicle and working on client property

A commercial auto policy covers the vehicle. It does not cover the equipment inside it, which needs inland marine cover that follows the tools wherever they are used.

Working at a client's property brings care, custody and control questions. Damage to the thing you are working on is treated differently from damage to the property around it, and the distinction is worth understanding for your particular service.

What it covers

The parts of a mobile business insurance policy

Commercial auto

The vehicle, rated for business use rather than personal.

Tools and equipment

Everything inside the vehicle, covered on site and in transit.

General liability

Injury and damage at client locations.

Certificates

For commercial clients and property managers who require them.

Working with us

What we do differently

We are an independent agency, so we place your mobile business insurance across several carriers rather than fitting you to one company's product. That means a genuine comparison, and someone to call who is not a call centre.

  • Rate the vehicle commercially — a personal policy can decline a work claim
  • Insure equipment separately; the auto policy covers the van, not the contents
  • Confirm how care, custody and control applies to your specific service

Common questions

Mobile Business Insurance, answered

Do I need commercial auto if it is my own van?

Yes, if it is used for the business. Personal auto policies can decline claims arising from business use, and that determination is made after the accident.

Are my tools covered in the van?

Only under inland marine tools and equipment cover. The auto policy covers the vehicle itself, not what is inside it.

What if I damage a client's property?

General liability responds to damage to the property around your work. Damage to the specific item you were working on may be excluded, depending on the form and your trade.
