Business Insurance

Wholesale and distribution insurance for stock on the move.

Stock sitting in a warehouse, stock on a truck, and stock at a customer awaiting acceptance. Each is covered by something different.

Distributors carry large inventories that move constantly, and the insurance has to follow the goods rather than sit at one address. Warehouse property, goods in transit and products liability together cover the journey from supplier to customer.

Peak stock, transit and warehouse legal liability

Inventory values swing with the season and with container arrivals. A limit set against average stock leaves you short at exactly the wrong moment, and coinsurance can reduce even partial claims when values are understated.

If you hold goods belonging to customers, warehouse legal liability covers property in your care that you do not own. Ordinary contents cover does not extend to it, and it is a common gap for distributors offering storage.

What it covers

The parts of a wholesale and distribution insurance policy

Warehouse stock

Inventory at your premises, valued for peak rather than average.

Goods in transit

Stock moving inbound and outbound, on your fleet or a carrier.

Warehouse legal liability

Customer-owned goods you store, which contents cover excludes.

Products liability

Harm caused by goods you distribute, including imported product.

Working with us

What we do differently

We are an independent agency, so we place your wholesale and distribution insurance across several carriers rather than fitting you to one company's product. That means a genuine comparison, and someone to call who is not a call centre.

  • Insure to peak inventory, especially around container arrivals
  • Add warehouse legal liability if you store customer-owned goods
  • Check transit cover applies whether you haul or use a carrier

Common questions

Wholesale and Distribution Insurance, answered

Is stock covered while in transit?

Only under transit or inland marine cover. Property insurance stops at your premises, and a carrier's liability is usually limited well below the value of the goods.

What if I store goods for customers?

Warehouse legal liability covers property in your care that you do not own. Standard contents cover addresses your own stock only, so this is a frequent gap.

Do distributors need products liability?

Yes. Claimants can pursue any party in the chain, and distributors of imported goods are often the practical defendant where the manufacturer is overseas.
